Igor Yanvarev "Tactical Mastery of a Chess Player. Volume 2. Basics of Calculation Techniques". Andrey Elkov Publishing House, Moscow, 2025 - 392 p. Before you is the second book from the three-volume work by International Master I.K. Yanvarev, a famous trainer, author of the fundamental work "The Old Indian Played by Tigran Petrosian" (2010), which received recognition from readers and was republished abroad. The three-volume work is united by a common idea - tactics and combinations in chess. In fact, this is a turnkey textbook, it explains everything from scratch to an advanced level. The second volume is devoted to the basics of calculation techniques, such topics as the tactical "spectrum" of a position, concentration of attention, inclusion of imagination are considered, the "tree of variations" is interpreted in a new way, the practical component is emphasized - the economy of calculation. A separate chapter allows the reader to assess their ability to calculate variations and outline ways to eliminate weaknesses. Each chapter ends with a large number of carefully selected examples for independent solution. Unlike other similar publications, the author examines chess tactics as a single whole, in combination with strategy and elements of psychology. It is based on the original author's methodology, which has proven itself well when working with chess players of various qualifications. Excellently selected examples, a clear logical structure and consistency in the presentation simplify the understanding of the material. For a wide range of chess fans.

The vast majority of opening guides are written for adult readers. This book is also devoted to the theory but it is junior. The structure of the book is simple and attractive: openings are examined using examples from actual games, each of which is presented in the form of a lesson with its own name. Several such lessons form an opening theme, and the examination of each theme concludes with exercises. In each opening, attention is drawn to its characteristic tactical and strategic ideas of combinations for independent solution strictly corresponds to the opening theme. Written in clear and easy language, the book is furnished with a large number of diagrams. Colored explanatory arrows on the diagrams and the selection of individual pages with a colored background make the book easier to understand. Regular work solve two problems: deepen the student's knowledge and develop his tactical vision, thus improving his skill and results.

This journal was published from 1876 to 1881. That two sets of two first years of publishing in one book 1876: 1-4 - 4 magazines1877: 1-12 - 12 magazinesA stamp (cansellation) on the title page says: 'permitted for release'A monthly magazine devoted to the game of chess and its literature. Published By M. Chigorin 1876-1877. St. Petersburg, Russia. Typography Of V. O. Demakov. The great Russian chess player, the founder of the national chess school Mikhail Ivanovich Chigorin for ten years published excellent magazines "Chess List" (1876-1881) and "Chess Bulletin" (1885-1887). He was there the main, and sometimes - the only author. Chigorin is the founder of the national chess school, an outstanding theorist, a contender for the world crown." How often we had to read and hear these words, which from frequent use got lost, began to seem empty banality. Meanwhile, Mikhail Ivanovich Chigorin (1850 – 1908) was really the brightest creative person. Gambling, captivating man, he for the sake of finding the truth of chess, solving the mysteries of an intricate debut or seemingly simple endgame position spared no effort and time. In those early years, universality has not yet become a "vital necessity" in chess, and therefore every major master had a distinct individual style, with its advantages and disadvantages. Russian champion believed in the dynamic potential of the figures, sought to open figure game, willingly donated material for the initiative. His powerful opponent Wilhelm Steinitz above all put unshakable positional values: the reliability of the pawn structure, the predominance in the center, the advantage in space. Chigorin and Steinitz played two matches for the world championship, a lot of tournament and easy games, but their fundamental dispute was not only at the chessboard. Polemically sharp, uncompromising discussions of these titans and their followers adorned the pages of Newspapers and magazines of those years.Chigorin passionately loved chess, and he was depressed by the lack of public interest in this wise game in our country. He wanted to prove that chess is not an empty game; it can become a matter of life, a real profession. To show chess in the most favorable light and to attract the attention of the educated public, Chigorin for ten years published, mainly at his own expense, the magazines "Chess List" (1876-81) and "Chess Bulletin" (1885-87). He was there the main, and sometimes – and the only author. Needless to say, these brilliant examples of Russian chess thought have long been a rarity.

The Book of the Sixth American Chess Congress, containing the games of the International Chess Tournament held at New York in 1889: Author: William Steinitz (1836 – 1900)Title: Sixth American Chess Congress Published: Sixth American Chess Congress, New York, 1891. First edition Binding: Hardcover. Royal octavo (9 3/4" x 7") bound in full leather with gilt lettering to spine. Language: English XXXVIII + 490 pages with table and diagrams Limited to 500 copies. This is copy 267 issued to T. Y. Homatow, Taschkent Contains the report of the Congress Committee and all 432 games with notes by Steinitz. This was a 20-man Double Round Robin Tournament. One of the longest tournaments in history. In the first half of the tournament, draws were counted as a half point. In the second half, they were replayed once. Between the 38 regular rounds, 8 replay rounds, and 4 game playoff for first at the end, there were 50 rounds all told (!). Like the 4th Congress, this tournament consisted largely of foreign masters. The retirement of Captain Mackenzie seems to date from this time (though some sources credit him as US Champion until his death in 1891), giving the top American finisher some claim on being de facto US Champion. The top American finisher was Solomon Lipschutz, who finished in 6th Place with a score of +22-9=7 The book comes with an article by the Soviet masters Aginsky, the former owner of this book.
