В сборник включены все 153 партии, сыгранные в турнире в Петрополисе, и 12 партий дополнительного матч-турнира в Портороже между тремя гроссмейстерами, разделившими второе-четвертое места в межзональном турнире и оспаривавшими две путевки в соревнования претендентов. Все партии публикуются в хронологическом порядке по турам, из них 52, наиболее интересные,— с подробными комментариями участников соревнования: Е. Геллера, П. Кереса, Л. Полугаевского, В. I can say that every such match is not an easy test, requiring maximum intensity of spiritual and physical strength. From Botvinnik to Fisher. In 1946, world champion Alexander Alyokhin passed away undefeated. A difficult question arose: how to determine the new, the sixth chess king? In the end, in 1948, the International Chess Federation (FIDE) hosted a match-tournament of five Grandmasters, in which I also participated. Then Botvinnik won, and within the next quarter of a century only Soviet chess players competed directly for the title of champion. Their hegemony was violated only by Fischer, but not for long ...

Kemeri 1937 was a chess tournament held in the resort town Ķemeri, Latvia, at the Gulf of Riga from 16 June to 8 July 1937. There were three co-winners: Samuel Reshevsky, Salo Flohr and Vladimir Petrovs. Petrovs was one of the world's leading chess players in the late 1930s (e.g., the 8th Chess Olympiad at Buenos Aires 1939), but due to the political tragedies that befell the Baltic states in World War II, he became a victim of the Soviet oppression and perished in Kotlas (Russia) gulag in 1943. Alekhine and Keres tied for 4th through 5th. Endre Steiner from Hungary captured sole 6th with six points, followed by Saviely Tartakower Ruben Fine for 7th and 8th respectively.
